| I think of the many creatures in the undersea community of corals, sponges, clusters of barnacles and pale crustaceans...all living their symbiotic relationships with each other. Snails feed on coral, which offers hiding places from predators, and in return for the space it provides, the abalone finds a natural camouflage. I painted a sea anemone that seems to sink her feet into cashmere slippers as she bobs and dances against a sunburst of light. Hands thrown into the air in a pirouette, she performs semaphores with her flaying arms, directing a clown fish that sails in on the wings of a pin shell. I've noticed that underlying what seems to be a choreographed ballet is sometimes a desperate need to survive. | ||||
