Powerful Caribbean night-blues machete their way through giant banana leaves. I'm just an observer, watching the evolving tangles of gnarled lime trees and strangler figs crisscross themselves -- overcome by becoming.
I singled out a banana tree, growing organically in a fertile garden, for its dramatic shading and shapes. It surprised me with its lizard greens and sun bleached yellows.
The painting, too, grew organically from the first pencil marks. During the painting process, the painting grew from the known to a place unknown and uncharted -- gaining strength from the accumulation of colors and textures.
