For years Murrells Inlet has been known for its seafood. Fishing boats leave the docks daily and return with fresh catch. In this workshop project, I teach students to describe the energy of reflections by first observing the relationship between the shapes of the boats and their corresponding shapes in the water. We look at how light settles on the ripples -- the water wrinkling in the breeze -- the lights wondering where to bounce next. Instead of painting the light reflections with opaque paint or masking them, we paint everything around the lights and leave the white paper to sparkle.
