A young student thought this painting represented a tiger caught under a fence. I had in mind something more abstract. Playing with the theme, "Clamps, Closures, and Constraints" for an invitational exhibition, I thought about possible constraints on brightly colored, patterned shapes and painted in the cold, steel bar. The maverick shapes break up under the pressure and happily float away. I like the simplicity of the young student's constrained tiger. This painting also won an award at a National Rutgers University exhibition.
