Artist's Statement "My paintings are watercolors that express my impressions of the world around me. Whether painting nature scenes of lush foliage or the richness of abstracted shapes in a mechanical object, I strive for the paintings to be luminous and teem with animation and sparkle. I want them to offer a glimpse of the wonder I find in nature and my surroundings. Through my paintings, I point out the continuous changes and exchanges that observing my environs reveals to me. Sometimes I make the foreground and background trade places -- allowing the viewer to see the sudden unexpected harsh light in the background become more important than the object itself. Abstract, with a sense of real and unreal, my paintings exemplify the dichotomy of hard edged and soft edged shapes, the harshness and softness that is nature's way. I think of my work as a playing with fluid washes and refracted light to describe the exuberance of colors and shapes. My intention is to convey a sense of surprise at the shuffling and reordering of lights and shadows and a sense of amazement at the interlocking of color fragments displayed lavishly in nature."
